CFCF – “Jump Out Of The Train”

23 Aug

Image  Montreal’s CFCF (Michael Silver) usually delivers with his chilled-out, ’80’s influenced beats without being too nostalgic about synth-pop and New Wave.  “Jump Out Of The Train” is a great example.

Oh, and we included The Hood Internet’s mash-up of Ice Cube and CFCF because we’re nice.

Oh, And We Hate Music Too. MGMT Performed A New “Song” On Letterman

23 Aug

What just happened?  Why is Andrew VanWyngarden dressed like a cave man Elton John?  Why is he smacking a giant cowbell?  Why are they playing this boring and overly repetitive song on national television?  Why does it suck so bad?  Oh, that’s right, I forgot; I wouldn’t “get” it.  Of course!  Silly me!  But let me give it my best shot nonetheless.  Maybe the whole point of the song is to be mindless and droning, thereby illustrating that our lives are monotonous and unavailing.  Clever enough.  But here’s an idea; if you want to sell records, don’t make bad songs.

However, I really did enjoy that cringe-worthy pause after the end of the sone before the audience started to awkwardly clap.

Wait, Nevermind, We Still Hate Movies; Ben Affleck Is the New Batman…

22 Aug

Ben Affleck will be playing Batman opposite Henry Cavill in the upcoming Superman-Batman “film” directed by Zack Snyder (because we needed that in the first place?).  Listen, we don’t have anything against Ben Affleck, really.  But how are we supposed to take seriously the same guy who made out with Cartman’s hand as the new Batman?

The New Trailer for “The Counselor” Makes Us Want To See Movies Again

22 Aug

Ridley Scott has teamed up with the best living American author, Cormac McCarthy, to adapt McCarthy’s first original screenplay, The Counselor, for the big screen.  Starring Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Brad Pitt, and Cameron Diaz, The Counselor tells the story of a lawyer (Fassbender) who gets in too deep with drug smugglers.  Suffice it to say, it looks amazing.  The Counselor is out October 25th.

This is What it Sounds Like When Tears for Fears Covers Arcade Fire.

Image “Just you watch, Roland; the world is going to quit making fun of New Wave one day…”

The band famous for ’80s staples such as “Shout,” “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” and nothing since then popped out of nowhere today with a cover of Arcade Fire’s “Ready to Start.”  It’s not bad.  But we think they would gain more notoriety if they next took on “Whip My Hair.”

The R. Kelly/Phoenix Mashup Is As Amazing As You’d Knew It’d Be

15 Aug

The Hood Internet graciously recreated this mashup after Phoenix and Mr. Kelly performed it live at Coachella this year.  Phoenix performs in Kansas City on September 27th.

The Mystery of Flying Kicks

15 Aug

Chances are, you’ve probably seen a pair of tennis shoes dangling from power lines before.  You had probably heard that it meant there’s a crack house nearby.  Or it memorialized a deceased gang member.  Or someone got lucky and was celebrating losing his or her virginity.  The thing is that there is no one real definition to what the long lasting, mysterious practice means.  However, director Matthew Bate is determined to figure out the ritual’s origin in The Mystery of Flying Kicks.  Worth 15 minutes of your time.
